The conference venue, Atorion, is in a very central location, a 5 minute walk away from the main railway station (Akita Station). The vast majority of the hotels in the city are within a short walking distance of the venue.
Searching on booking.com or similar booking sites offers several options to choose from. As for specific hotels, Dormy Inn is right next to the venue and generally reasonably priced (and also has a communal hot bath on the top floor in case you are interested), as is Comfort Hotel.
ANA Crowne Plaza, Castle Hotel and Metropolitan Hotel are also within less than 10 minutes walking, but those are usually somewhat more expensive (those latter three are 4-star as opposed to Dormy Inn and Comfort Hotel, which are 3-star).
APA Hotel is also not very far (<15 mins walk) and has been recently reopened. Daiwa Roynet is also a good choice, about the same distance as APA Hotel. Alpha Inn is close and cheap.
In general any hotel within walking distance from Atorion should be fine. I do not recommend booking much farther, unless you are confident navigating public transportation (buses) in Japan.
